George Fischer mobilise their Van delivery workers!

After a year of negotiations John Greenwood has landed a sale with George Fischer to supply Honeywell mobile data terminals to support a GPRS “Proof of Delivery” application for their field based van fleet out on the road.

George Fischer offer a comprehensive range of piping system components for use in most pressure piping applications. A full range of plastic pipes, fittings & valves is complemented with actuators and process control equipment. Their UK business, based in Coventry, operates from a purpose built DC where George Fischer’s fleet of vehicles deliver customer orders around the UK on a daily basis.

Their requirement was to drive improved efficiencies by expediting the customer invoicing process. Upon delivery of a customer order the transaction is date & time stamped with a signature captured and transmitted via GPRS to the in house server. This application provides true benefits in reducing invoice cycles & minimising the amount of paperwork involved in processing customer orders back at the centre.

Dakota IS engaged with Ian Ross, UK Director of IT for George Fischer back in late 2007 to scope out plans for a mobile, real time Proof of Delivery system. After extensive testing of rugged devices the customer decided upon the PDA 7900 terminal from Honeywell which they subsequently deployed for their delivery drivers.

Commenting on going live with the application Mr Ross said “Although we could have purchased a bespoke solution from any number of potential suppliers we wanted the flexibility of deploying our own in-house written application to the devices. We found Dakota to be the most collaborative, supportive & receptive company to match our needs.”
