Aintree University Hospitals appoints Dakota IS to hit NPSA Printed Wristbands guidelines

Dakota Integrated Solutions, based in Carrington Manchester, has been awarded the Positive Patient ID (PPI) project at Aintree University Hospitals. The trust is a large, complex organisation providing acute healthcare to a population of 330,000 in North Merseyside and surrounding areas providing acute hospital services to the residents of South Sefton, North Liverpool and Kirkby.

Aintree undertook a rigorous selection process & chose the Dakota IS solution based upon their reference sites & expertise in having integrated with numerous other PAS systems.

An integral part of the Dakota bid was the provision of a compliant wristband solution & integration with the trusts’ Medway PAS system. The project was a two phased approach with phase II incorporating the use of a fully compliant 2D DataMatrix barcode to comply with GS1 standards. The trust also decided upon the revolutionary HC100 wristband printer from Zebra with its’ unique cartridge loading system, along with the printers’ wireless connectivity option to overcome the issue of an insufficient number of network points across the site.

In detail the project specifics included:

  • Provision of Zebra HC100 Wireless wristband printers & associated consumables
  • Provision of hardware maintenance contract
  • Provision of Dakota IS PASiMED solution incorporating integration with the trusts Medway PAS system & formatting of the wristband including 2D barcode
  • Provision of 2D Barcode readers
  • Hot staging of printers prior to deployment.

Commenting on the award Geoff Monk, Dakota Health National Account Manager said “Things moved pretty quickly once we were engaged with the trust. The whole project team embraced our suggestions on the integration piece which were endorsed by Zebra to help deploy a compliant wristband solution. We also overcame the issue the trust had of insufficient network points meaning Aintree needed the expertise & experience of a company that had deployed a wireless solution previously which Dakota had.”

Dakota IS Health helps trusts roll out projects across a range of applications in the NHS & has now deployed in excess of 2,000 Zebra printers across the NHS in England & Wales.
